Jack Black is a would be rock musician who owes rent so he impersonates his flat mate to get a job as a supply teacher in a school. He then turns a group of public school kids into a rock band and enter a competition. The plot is obvious, however it is done in an engaging and entertaining way that is carried off successfully by the children and Jack Black. This was Richard Linklater's first big Hollywood film. He insisted that all the children in the film could actually play the instruments they are seen playing.
